The Butcher Shop & GRILL, established in 1996 in Johannesburg, South Africa, is the iconic chain of restaurants that incorporates the butchery within the restaurant premises. This distinction was the brainchild of Alan Pick, an industry veteran of over 40 years whose immaculate knowledge of butchery was pivotal for the Butcher Shop & GRILL's success.
Since 1996 the restaurant in Johannesburg has developed into a 1400 square metre food emporium, and today is one of the biggest restaurants in South Africa which despite its success has managed to maintain its heritage and serve the best steaks in the country. It is rated a top restaurant in South Africa, selling an average of 8 to 12 tonnes of meat per week. It is also the only steakhouse in South Africa to have received the coveted maximum three stars in the 'Rossouw's Restaurants' guide in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
