The gas from the North Field (the source of Qatargas’ feedstock) is known as “sour” gas because it contains sulphur. This sulphur must be removed from the gas before it can be processed into LNG. Qatargas process the sulphur that is removed from the gas and export it into the world’s market.
Elemental Sulphur is the primary source to produce sulphuric acid. Sulphuric acid is a very important industrial chemical and is used in a variety of industries, including fertilizer production. Qatargas has exported cargoes of sulphur to markets as diverse as India, China, and Jordan.
